MELISSOURGOI TZOUMERKA

Melissourgoi is a beautiful village in Epirus built at an altitude of 900 meters. on the slopes of Tzoumerka. The village belongs to the prefecture of Arta and is the northernmost village of the prefecture. Melissourgoi are bordering with the prefectures of Ioannina and the prefecture of Trikala. Today the village belongs to the Municipality of Central Tzoumerka. The name of the village probably came from the simile of the hard work of the residents with the diligence of the bee, for which is famous. The villagers were engaged in farming, agriculture and beehives. Melissourgoi starred in throwing off the Turkish yoke, which is why the village was destroyed in 1821 by the Turks, and in the National Resistance.
