ELATI

Elati is located in Zagorochoria in Epirus. The village is built on the northeastern slopes of Mitsikeli at an altitude of 960m. Elati belongs to Central Zagori of the prefecture of Ioannina. The settlement was established in the 16th century and residents were mainly engaged in the timber trade. Formerly the village was called Boultsi, but in 1926 took the name Elati. On 14 July of 1943 the Germans burned the village completely. In the 2011 census in Elati lived 49 residents. The village has been declared a traditional settlement and recognized in August 2005 by presidential decree as a martyr village.

ACCESS TO ELATI :

Elati is 30km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km. through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.

ATTRACTIONS IN ELATI :

In Elati you can see the church of St. George built in 1806. Elati is a village situated amongst pine, fir, oak combined with traditional stone houses and running water. If you visit Elati walk through the picturesque stone streets and browse the local forests. Elati is located in a wooded area, from where the view to the area of ​​Zagori and to the tops of Tymfi is excellent.
