ILIOCHORI - NTOMPRINOVO

Iliochori is a village of Ioannina in Epirus. The village is located in Zagorochoria and specifically belongs to Central Zagori. Iliochori is built at an altitude of 900m. on the eastern slopes of Tymfi. Formerly called Ntomprinovo or Domvrinovo, but in 1927 was named Iliochori. During the Second World War, Iliochori was burned by the Germans. According to the 2011 census, in the village live 31 residents.

ACCESS TO ILIOCHORI :

Iliochori is 70km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km. through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.

ATTRACTIONS IN ILIOCHORI :

If you visit Iliochori you can browse to the village and see the stone houses with their courtyards. In the village square you will be impressed by the huge plane tree. In Iliochori you can also see the monastery of Panagia that was built by Cretan monks in the 14th century. Just outside the village are the impressive waterfalls "balla di striga." The waterfalls are three and contiguous and the largest has a height of 25m. These waterfalls form natural swimming pools, where the water is crystal clear.

The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and the route one can find the stone bridge of Petsou that was built in 1887. At waterfalls the sight is beautiful. The local community has ensured, so there are benches to one can enjoy the landscape comfortable. If you attempt to dive into the waters, you willi be quite freshened but the splash in the waterfalls is unique experience.
