VOVOUSA

Vovousa is a beautiful mountain village in Zagorochoria of Epirus. It belongs to East Zagori of the prefecture of Ioannina, which consists of about 15 villages bordering the prefecture of Grevena. Vovousa is the northernmost and most remote village of East Zagori. Built in 1748 at an altitude of 1000m., it is recognized as an archaeological monument. In Vlach village is called Baieasa. Named Vovousa maybe from the roar that caused the waters of the River Aoos in their passage. Today, the area of Vovousa is inhabited by about 100 people. Main occupation of the inhabitants is the logging and wood processing (in the village there are 6 wood processing crafts). Vovousa nestled in a valley, surrounded by dense and vast forests  with presence felt of bear, which crosses the river Aoos. The area around the river Aoos hosts rich flora and fauna. Here the natural beauty is combined with the tradition of Epirus.

ACCESS TO VOVOUSA :

The beautiful Vovousa is 77 km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km.through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.

ATTRACTIONS IN VOVOUSA :

In Vovousa you can see the church of St. George, built in 1814. Main attraction in Vovousa is the stone arch bridge built by Alexios Misio. The bridge, which adorns the village of Vovousa, connects the two neighborhoods, who are separated by the river Aoos. Guests can tour the forest of Vovousa, which is part of the National Park of Pindos, admiring the lush vegetation. The forest of Vovousa is one of the entrances to the National Park of Valia Calda. Do not miss, also, the opportunity to visit, between Vovousa and Metsovo, the artificial lake of the sources of Aoos, located at a height of 1400m.
