Melissourgoi is a beautiful village in Epirus built at an altitude of 900 meters. on the slopes of Tzoumerka. The village belongs to the prefecture of Arta and is the northernmost village of the prefecture. Melissourgoi are bordering with the prefectures of Ioannina and the prefecture of Trikala. Today the village belongs to the Municipality of Central Tzoumerka. The name of the village probably came from the simile of the hard work of the residents with the diligence of the bee, for which is famous. The villagers were engaged in farming, agriculture and beehives. Melissourgoi starred in throwing off the Turkish yoke, which is why the village was destroyed in 1821 by the Turks, and in the National Resistance.
Melissourgoi are 72 km. away from Arta, 60 km. from Ioannina, 300 km. from Thessaloniki, 425 km. from Athens and 231 km. from Patra.
If you visit Melissourgoi you can see the Folklore Museum, situated in the village square and dedicated to the National Resistance. The streams and the dense forests give a special beauty to the village. Please be aware that in the area of Melissourgoi there are many sources of water such as Kefalovriso, Krioneri, Vrotopi, Agathi (Thorn) etc. Water "Tzoumerka" is bottled at source Agathi (Thorn). A portion of the water of this source is given to the next village Pramanta. In Melissourgoi can also see the Monastery of Virgin Mary built in 1745, the Byzantine church of St. Nicholas built in 1778 with frescoes of the 19th century, the church of Virgin Mary, the church of St. Mark, of St. Paraskevi and of Prophet Elias. At an altitude of 1023 m. above the village operates the Mountain Refuge of Melissourgoi.
