DIPOTAMO

Dipotamo is one of Zagorochoria in Epirus. It is located in Central Zagori in the prefecture of Ioannina. Dipotamo is built on the northern slopes of Mitsikeli at an altitude of 820m. The village was called Stolovon that means in Slavic "seat" or "throne." In 1928 renamed to Mega Anilio and then to Dipotamo. The village lies between two rivers and is particularly densely-built. The settlement was known from the 14th century, but it flourished in the 17th century when it attracted the population of some neighboring villages abandoned. The location of the village helped in the development of agriculture and livestock.

ACCESS TO DIPOTAMO :

Dipotamo is 53km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km. through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.

ATTRACTION IN DIPOTAMO :

In Dipotamo you can see the stone bridge in Mousovo, the bridge of the mill, the church of the Assumption that was built in 1872, the church of Agios Konstantinos, built on top of the hill where the village is built, and the chapel of Prophet Elias. In Dipotamo is one beautiful stone fountain where you can navigate through a path. Also, between Dipotamo and the village Kalouta are the ruins of a Roman fortress and an inscription in Latin named antoninus salve. It is probably the name of a garrison.
