FLABOURARI

Flabourari is a village of East Zagori and belongs to the prefecture of Ioannina. The official name is 'the Flabourarion'. Flabourari is built at an altitude of 1000m. at the foot of the peak Tsouka Rosa, which is a top of the Pindos mountain range. According to the latest census, in the village live 88 inhabitants, who are mainly farmers or woodcutters. In recent years, Flabourari has great tourist development. The position of the village is central as it leads to Vovousa and from there to Grevena, while it is the center between Ioannina, Metsovo and the Western Zagori. During the Second World War, Flabourari was torched by the Germans so it is classified as a martyr village. Because of this, it doesn’t retain the entire traditional local architecture, but only in one part of the village.

ACCESS TO FLABOURARI :

Flabourari is 55 km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km.through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.

ATTRACTIONS IN FLABOURARI :

Despite the disaster of 1943, in Flabourari is rescued the historic church of St. Nicholas, built in 1774, and a stone bridge that links the two neighborhoods of the village and was built in 1748. In Flabourari you can also see the church of St. Trinity, located east of the village. In the middle of the church is a small well where flocked residents of the nearby villages to get sanctification. Saint George, in the middle of the village, Agios Athanasios in the west, and Prophet Ilias, just outside the village, are the other churches you will find in Flabourari.
