KATO PEDINA

Kato Pedina is one of the villages in Central Zagori and is located in the prefecture of Ioannina in Epirus. The village is built on three hills between the mountains Stouro and Mitsikeli. Kato Pedina was known from the Byzantine period, as already mentioned in 1321, and is one of the oldest villages of Zagori. Formerly the village called Kato Soudena and the name came from the Slavic root meaning "cold place". In the village live 41 residents, who deal with agriculture, animal husbandry and trade. During World War II Kato Pedina particularly helped the country's defense. In Kato Pedina the tranquility and beauty of the continental nature are the dominant elements that will attract visitors.

ACCESS TO KATO PEDINA :

Kato Pedina is 38km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km. through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.

ATTRACTIONS IN KATO PEDINA :

If you visit Kato Pedina, you can see the church of Taxiarches built in 1611 and decorated in 1749. The church of Taxiarches has been characterized as one of the 350 best landscapes of Greece. The church of Agios Athanasios thah was built in 1702 and is the parish church of the village, as well as the Church of St. Nicholas at the entrance of the village dominate in Kato Pedina. In the village are preserved stone mansions, places of traditional agricultural production, such as huts and floors, while in the plain stretching in front of the village there are 6 stone wells. Kato Soudena and soudenitikos valley was famous for the production of cereals and legumes and vineyards.
