AGIOS MINAS

Agios Minas is a picturesque village of the prefecture of Ioannina in Epirus and is developed around the main square. It belongs to the West Zagori. Agios Minas is built on the western slopes of Tymfi at an altitude of 640m., on a green hill. It took its name from the church of the village. The village does not preserve many elements of the traditional architecture of Zagori, because in 1943 was destroyed by the Germans. Agios Minas was built in 1750a.C. in the place where the old Byzantine city Revniko was.

ACCESS TO AGIOS MINAS :

Agios Minas is 48km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km. through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.

ATTRACTIONS IN AGIOS MINAS :

In Agios Minas you can visit the Church of the Assumption, built in the 19th cent., and the church of St. Tryphon built in 1871. In the village is the beautiful bridge of Voidomatis river and around the village are preserved the ruins of an older settlement . The bridge of Voidomatis is also known as bridge Kleidonia or Kleidoniavistas. The area around the bridge Kleidonia is connected to one of the greatest crimes that occurred in Zagori between two families of the region. The killing led to abandon the whole village. The bridge was built in 1853 and connects Agios Minas with Kleidonia, while constituted a part of the road connecting Ioannina to Konitsa. Furthermore, from the village begin routes leading to the monastery of the Annunciation built in 1576. The monastery of the Annunciation is located in location "Kastraki" and has unique frescoes inside.
