Vrisohori is a mountainous village of Ioannina in Epirus. The village is one of the 46 villages of Zagorochoria and specifically belongs to Central Zagori. Vrisohori is built at an altitude of 940m. and is the most remote village in Zagori with reference point Ioannina. It is also the third biggest village of Zagorochoria. Vrisohori lies between mountains Smolikas and Tymfi and between their Drakolimnes. 5 km. from the village is the river Aoos. At the foot of the Tsuka - Rosa are large pieces of ice that does not melt with summer heat waves. The wooded area of Vrisohori is now part of the National Park of Northern Pindos. The village has originally the Vlach name Liasinitsa which hellenized in Lesinitsa. After 1927 the village took its name Vrisohori of the many springs and fountains of the village. The stone architecture of houses has not been maintained because the village was burned three times (twice by the Germans and one during the civil war).
Vrisohori is 75km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km. through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.
In Vrisohori you will meet in the main square the large tree and the church of Saint Charalambos, built in 1819. Also in the village is the monastery of Agia Triada Gkronitsas. This is the most distant monastery of residential area in Epirus (15 km. from Vrisohori). Inside the village, and around the area of Vrisohori there are stone bridges. The bridge of Kouitsas, of Skarvenas, of Gkarani and the “Small” and the “Big” bridge bridging streams in the area, tributaries of Aoou. Moreover, in the gorge of the River Aoos lies The Stomio Monastery was built in 1749 and is dedicated to the Birth of the Virgin. The Stomio Monastery is one of the most visited monasteries in Epirus and there the elder Paisius was a monk.
In Vrisohori you will find many options for accommodation and your board, such as hostels, apartments, hotels, restaurants, cafes etc. From Vrisohori starts hiking trail to the top Tsouka Rosa. Also, there is a path that connects Vrisohori with Tsepelovo through a route of about 8 hours. Another path leads from the village to the Monastery of Agia Triada through a route of about three hours.
Vrisohori stands next to other villages of Central Zagori, as Iliochori, Eleuthero, Palaioselli, Pades, Vovousa etc. Also near Vrisohori is located Konitsa, while easy is the access to Grevena.
