Demati is a village of Epirus and belongs to the prefecture of Ioannina. Is located on the slopes of Northern Pindos at an altitude of 1020 m. Demati is one of the villages of East Zagori, in which, according to the census of 2011, live about 100 people. Demati, like other villages of Eastern Zagori, may lie in the shadow of tourist development of the villages of West Zagori, but the traditional character and the nature will charm you. Stone houses, stone paths and fountains, picturesque squares, historic churches and arched bridges suffice just to make you visit Demati and the wider region of East Zagori.
Demati is 37 km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km. through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.
In Demati you can see the bridge of Ali Pasha. The bridge of Ali Pasha is located outside Demati in place Baklani, on the road leading from Ioannina to Metsovo. The bridge of Ali Pasha may be ruined, but it is gorgeous. In Demati are also the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos and the monastery of Agia Marina. If you visit Demati, climb to the top of Prophet Elias to enjoy from there all the view of East Zagori.
For your stay in Demati, as for your board, you can choose a village of East Zagori. In Demati is organized truffle hunting. The truffle is an underground mushroom species that grows mainly in the roots of trees or shrubs.
Near Demati are other villages of Zagorochoria, such as Miliotades, Petra and Itea. The nearest town is Ioannina. If you go through Egnatia Road, you can head to the picturesque village of Metsovo.
