Kavallari is a village of Epirus and belongs to the prefecture of Ioannina. Kavallari is located in East Zagori and is considered the oldest village of Zagorochoria as well it was already inhabited in 1431 after the conquest of Ioannina by Turks. In the census of 2011 Kavallari had 78 inhabitants. Those who live there are mainly engaged in farming and agriculture. Kavallari is built at an altitude of 660m. and is considered a historic village, because in 1943 it was burned by the Germans during World War II.
ACCESS TO KAVALLARI :
Kavallari is 39 km. away from Ioannina. From Thessaloniki you can cover a distance of 260 km. through Egnatia Road and arrive in Ioannina, or head to Konitsa. From Athens you can come to Ioannina via Patras, covering 445km., or via the National Road Athens - Lamia.
ATTRACTIONS IN KAVALLARI :
In Kavallari stands the Church of the Holy Trinity, built in 1943 in a fortified position. Also, in the village there are numerous stone bridges that you can visit. The stone bridge of Goura is on the road to Miliotades and is arched. He joins the two banks of the stream of Goura and was built to unite the village with Ioannina. Next to the bridge there is a fountain. The bridge to the Pit of signs bridges the stream of Zagoritikos River, the tributary of Arachthos, and is located outside the village. From the bridge of Ghana (or Gjana) now contains only the remains of the stone bridge, and the government, despite its promises, did not care for the restoration of the bridge leading to tear down.
