Tristeno belongs to East Zagori of the prefecture of Ioannina. It is one of the 46 villages of Zagorochoria of Epirus and distinguishes for nature and running water. Tristeno is built on the eastern slopes of Tymfi at an altitude of 940m. According to the census of 2001, in Tristeno live 141 inhabitants. The truth is that we don’t know when the village was established. It seems that the first time the village is mentioned is in a bull in 1319 of Andronikos II in a Byzantine ruler of Ioannina, who was called Drestenikos. Probably for this reason, the village was called Drestenikou, Dresteniko, Ntresteniko and Drestenikon province Dodona. In 1927 it took its present name Tristeno. The name Tristeno was given by the three channels that are above the village. During World War II the Germans bombed the village. For this reason, today very few houses in Tristeno preserve the traditional local architecture.
